Data Identification
Abstract: Population Density 2015 is part of Gridded Population of the World: Future Estimates (GPWFE). GPWFE consists of estimates of human population for the years 2005, 2010, 2015 by 2.5 arc-minute grid cells.

Lineage: Data was derived from two products of the Gridded Population of the World (GPW) in 2000. Version 3.0 (V3) Beta: Adjusted Population and Adjusted Population Density. GPW was developed by the Socioeconomic Data and applications Center (SEDAC) at CIESIN at Columbia University. These products vary in GIS compatible data formats and geographic extents (global, continent [Antarctica not included], and country levels). Spatial reference metadata refers to global extent. A proportional allocation griddingalgorithm, utilizing more than 300,000 national and subnational administrative units, is used to assign population values to grid cells. Additional global grids are created from the 2.5 arc-minute grid at 1/4, 1/2, and 1 degree resolutions. (Spatial reference metadata refersto global extent, 2.5 arc-minute resolution). GPWFE is produced by the Columbia University Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) in collaboration with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Programme (FAO) and the Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT).Map data was converted for use in TerraViva!® global data viewing software by ISCIENCES, L.L.C., Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. The downloadable zip file (3.8 MB) contains a 2.5 arc minute map. System requirement: To use the data files (*.xtvm) you must have TerraViva! ® Global Data Viewer or TerraViva!® Global Data Analyst software installed. A free copy of TerraViva!® Global Data Viewer is available atwww.terraviva.net.
